Solid Fuel & Biomass Feed Systems

Biomass feed conveyor systems are required for receiving, storing, reclaiming, and utilizing biomass at plant facilities. Biomass sources are renewable fuels often used in a combustion process for the production of steam and energy and typically include:

  • forestry residues (bark, sawdust, sludge)
  • municipal solid waste (trash, food waste, shredded plastics)
  • industrial waste (rubber tires, waste oils)
  • bioenergy crops (wood and grasses, switchgrass)

While the pulp and paper industry has always utilized biomass to produce energy, the utility market is just beginning to build or convert existing power plants to utilize biomass as a fuel in lieu of coal and traditional fossil fuels. Biomass has quickly gained popularity in recent years and is also used in the production of bio-fuels such as ethanol and wood pellets.

Process Barron also designs custom drag chain conveying systems to feed and handle solid fuels including coal, petroleum coke, and lignite.

Process Barron can engineer, fabricate and install an entire turnkey biomass / solid fuel feed solution or any component, including truck unloading equipment, underpile reclaimers, drag chain/screw conveyors, live bottom metering bins, and wood chip digester shuttle conveyors. We also deliver hog fuel reclaim conveyor systems that grind bark and wood not screened prior to bark bin delivery. We can design solid fuel systems and materials handling conveying equipment to process multiple biomass source materials at varying rates and percentages that are combined at the boiler for combustion.
