Serious noise problems from an I.D. fan on a cogeneration boiler.
Source of Detection:
Complaints from neighbors
Cause of Problem:
This new cogeneration boiler is equipped with an I.D. fan which is turbine driven. The
fan is also equipped with inlet box dampers for control purposes. Because of oversizing
of the fan, the I.D. fan was initially operated with the inlet dampers in a throttled position
and the turbine drive at a reduced speed. The operation of a fan with inlet dampers in a
throttled position causes reduced efficiency which customarily develops excessive sound
problems.
Solution to Problem:
Reduce the turbine speed and open the inlet dampers
Benefit:
Elimination of sound problem
